Hey everyone! Welcome to my first blog post. In today's post, I'm going back to the beginning and talking about what the basic nutrition principles are. There's lots of confusion on these topics so I'll just I won't be going too in-detail, but enough so you understand.

I'll be covering:

Carbohydrates

Fat

Protein

Carbohydrates

One one our main function/energy source is carbohydrates. I like to think of it as fuel for our body. Many people are afraid of carbs or is on a diet that allows no carbs. Carbs are a necessity for our overall health, however there is confusion on which on good and which are not. There are two types of carbs: complex carbs and simple carbs (aka the good and bad). You need the complex carbs over the simple carbs.

COMPLEX CARBS:

Veggies/ fruit

Whole grains

Beans

Dairy (not too much)

SIMPLE CARBS:

Soda, candy, sweets, and processed foods/sugar

Fats

In the nutrition world, fat has not had a very good reputation. Fat is also a primary function and necessity for our body. Fat's main roles are restoring energy, insulation and immune defense. It also absorbs vitamin A, D, E and K (which is a good thing).

HEALTHY SOURCES OF FAT:

Eggs

Dairy (also not too much)

Some meat

Avocados

Nuts/seeds

Protein

Protein is the last principle I'll be talking about today. Protein is also an essential for our body. It keeps us growing strong and healthy. It helps repair parts of our body such as: muscles, bones, blood, organs, skin, heart, brain etc and helps us have plenty of energy. However, just like fat and carbs, we need to make sure we're over dosing with too much of protein, we need to maintain a healthy amount.

HEALTHY SOURCES OF PROTEIN:

Eggs

Some meat

Beans/lentils

Nuts

Quinoa

Some whole grains

Some veggies

Alright that's all! Hopefully that made sense to you. If you want more detail and information about these topics, here are some sources I used and where you can find more.

*Note- these sources I provided our made by certified nutritionists and you can also find more information in some of their books
